Australia To Reduce Flights From India

Australia decided to reduce accepting number of flights from India due to the second wave of Covid-19 which hit the country dangerously in the past two months.

According to ABC News, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said chartered and direct flights from India would soon be cut by 30 percent and departures to India would be limited.

Returning Australian residents and citizens from “high-risk countries” was an important issue, he further added.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said that till now, India is the only identified high-risk country that will see a 30 percent reduction of flights to and from Australia.

The decision to reduce the flights would apply to both the government-organized repatriation flights and commercial flights into Sydney.

“We will also be limiting the departure exceptions for Australians traveling to high-risk countries,” the PM further added.

“Anyone returning from India on these flights and all flights thereafter will be required to isolate for two weeks prior to departure.”

He said his government had a humanitarian need to help the returning travelers, but the ongoing repatriation effort needed to be weighed up with the safety of Territorians.

It was also announced that travelers coming from high-risk countries, which would include India, will have to return a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of their flight back to Australia, the ABC News reported.
