Coronavirus update: Complete lockdown in India

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a “complete lockdown” in the country  during a television address Tuesday night.It is one of the  most extensive stay-at-home orders  in the world to fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

The 21-day lockdown was set to begin at midnight.

“To save India and every Indian, there will be a total ban on venturing out of your homes,” Modi said, adding that if the county failed to stay home  the next 21 days, it would be set back by 21 years.

Indian health officials have so far reported 469 actives cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, and 10 deaths.

Earlier, WHO had mentioned that India had earlier led the world in eradicating two pandemics namely Smallpox and Polio despite being a densely populated country. Hence, they believe India is the right country to guide the world and show the way to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
