Dr. AI: Here’s How Doctors in India Are Embracing Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence has expanded into every corner of society, and the medical field is no exception. According to the Clinician of the Future 2026 report, 48% of doctors and clinicians in India already use AI in their work, highlighting the growing adoption of the technology in healthcare.

However, the report says AI adoption is still incomplete, and some clinicians remain unprepared to leverage the technology effectively. While 75% believe AI can improve patient care, only 41% of clinicians say their workplace provides good access to digital technologies, including AI.

According to the report, 50% of clinicians believe AI has already made a positive difference in patient care, while 49% use AI as part of their work. Among AI users, 34% regularly use healthcare-specific AI tools, while 56% rely on general-purpose AI tools for tasks such as preparing documents, gathering information, and streamlining workflows.

The report also found that 80% believe AI will become a valuable assistant to healthcare professionals over the next five to 10 years. More than half believe it will help improve the quality of patient care, patient outcomes, and consultations.

At the same time, the report says that only 45% of clinicians feel they have received adequate AI training. Among doctors, only 18% reported receiving sufficient AI training, compared with 46% of nurses.

The report makes it clear that AI is not a replacement for doctors, but rather a tool that can support clinicians and improve healthcare delivery when used responsibly.

One of the report’s key findings is that many clinicians are considering leaving the profession. According to the report, 69% of doctors and clinicians in India are concerned they may leave the profession by 2030, citing workload, stress, and the changing demands of the healthcare sector as the main reasons.
