Effective Herbs for Arthritis

Arthritis is one of the most painful conditions wherein the patient has to live in constant pain. It has been found that certain herbs and other natural remedies can help deal effectively with arthritis. Medical treatments, regular exercise, and proper nutrition can also help a person manage their arthritis symptoms.

Though these are not clinically tested and verified, they have been used traditionally to obtain positive results. It is always desirable that one consults the doctor before trying these remedies:

Borage Oil: Effective for joint pain, borage oil may relieve pain. The seeds of the Borago officinalis are rich sources of an omega-6 fatty acid called gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) and linolenic acid. These help in regulating the immune responses in the body subsequently helping in reducing the pain.

Turmeric: This yellow spice and medicinal herb that originated in India has a potent plant compound called curcumin which is effective in reducing the chronic inflammation caused due to Rheumatic Arthritis.

Cat’s claw: Native to South and Central America, this vine plant enhances immune function and reduces inflammation. Though not advised for pregnant ladies, others can benefit well from cat’s claw especially in terms of regulating the arthritis pain.

Eucalyptus: Effective in reducing inflammation and pain, eucalyptus oil which is distilled from eucalyptus leaves has antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. This is capable of reducing the secretion of two inflammatory enzymes, thereby preventing inflammation. Make sure that you are not allergic to it as otherwise it would have many side effects.

Frankincense:  This is a kind of resin extracted from the bark of the Boswellia tree with strong aromatic quality and beneficial for those suffering from chronic inflammation. The active compounds present in frankincense possess anti-inflammatory properties and it subsequently helps in relieving arthritis symptoms.

Aloe vera: Popular for its health benefits, this succulent plant is a key ingredient in many wound healing ointments and skin products owing to its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. There are certain compounds in Aloe vera which are capable of removing free radicals from the body and this helps in reducing the inflammations in the body.
