How to Update Aadhaar Card Online for Free: Step-by-Step Guide

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a convenient and cost-free way for residents to update their Aadhaar card online. As part of the Digital India initiative, the UIDAI has implemented this service on the myAadhaar portal, allowing individuals to avail themselves of the free document update facility.

This free service is available from March 15, 2023, to June 14, 2023. It’s important to note that while the service is free on the myAadhaar portal, physical Aadhaar centers will continue to charge a fee of Rs 50, as before.

The UIDAI has been actively encouraging residents to update their demographic details by uploading their Proof of Identity and Proof of Address (PoI/PoA) documents. This initiative is particularly relevant for individuals whose Aadhaar card was issued 10 years ago and has not been updated since. By updating these details, residents can enjoy improved ease of living, better service delivery, and an enhanced authentication success rate.

If there is a need to change demographic details such as Name, Date of Birth, Address, etc., residents have the option to use the regular online update service or visit the nearest Aadhaar center. In such cases, normal charges will apply.

To update your Aadhaar card online for free, follow these steps:

According to the Aadhaar Enrolment and Update Regulations, 2016, Aadhaar number holders are required to update their supporting documents in Aadhaar at least once every 10 years from the date of enrollment. This ensures the continued accuracy of their information by submitting POI and POA documents.
