India may extend ban on U.K flights

India is planning to extend the restrictions imposed on U.K flights for two more days, civil aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Tuesday.

“I foresee a slight extension of the temporary suspension. I don’t expect that extension to be a long or indefinite extension. In the next day or two, we will find out if any additional steps need to be taken, or when we can start easing the current temporary suspension,” Hardeep Singh Puri said.

As SARS CoV-2 was spreading fiercely in the U.K, India had decided to enforce temporary ban on inbound U.K flights till 31st December.

Moreover, the ministry also mandated passengers arriving from the UK to undergo RT-PCR test on arrival at the airports concerned.

“Considering the prevailing situation in the UK, the government of India has decided that all flights originating from the UK to India shall be temporarily suspended till December 31, 2020 (11.59pm). This suspension will start from 11.59pm, December 22, 2020,” the ministry had announced.

Many countries had stopped flights from the UK and reports suggest that the European Union countries had sought possible steps in response to the revelation that this strain of SARS CoV-2 is over 70% more infectious.
