India to supply half-a-million doses of Covishield vaccine to Canada

India has decided to supply half-a-million doses of Covishield vaccine to Canada. The decision is in respect of the Canadian Prime minister Justin Trudeau’s request to Prime Minister Modi early this month for providing the vaccines to Canada. Canada has asked for one million doses of the Covishield vaccine.

According to the Hindustan Times, the vaccine supply to Canada has been approved in principle after PM Trudeau called up PM Modi early this month. While the Canadian Prime Minister discussed vaccine supplies with PM Modi, he also assured safety and security for Indian diplomats and diaspora, who were being targeted by Khalistan separatists elements based in Toronto and Vancouver.

It was reported that the Indian diplomats in Ottawa and Vancouver were threatened by so-called Khalistan separatists in the backdrop of the farmer protests against the three farm laws passed by Indian Parliament. Being annoyed India urging Canada to take action to the identified culprits by Indian High Commission.

The decision to supply Covid vaccine to Canada has come amid the tension between the two countries which began after India opposed the PM Trudeau’s support to the Farmer’s protest in India.

The Modi government has also approved supply of Covid vaccine for armies of Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and other neighboring countries.
