Kerala hosts special Yoga, Ayurveda programme on menopause wellness ahead of Yoga Day 2026

A special wellness programme focusing on “Yoga for Menopause – A Holistic Wellness Module” was organised in Kerala’s Kottayam district as part of the 32-day countdown to the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026.
According to DD News, the programme was jointly organised by the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) Kalathipady and the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga under the Ministry of Ayush to promote women’s health through yoga and Ayurveda.
The event highlighted the role of yoga and traditional Ayurvedic practices in supporting women during menopause and improving holistic physical and mental well-being. Community members, yoga practitioners and wellness experts attended the programme in large numbers.
Experts during the session explained that menopause involves hormonal, emotional and metabolic changes that can affect women’s health and quality of life. They noted that yoga can help improve emotional balance, reduce stress, promote better sleep and enhance overall wellness during the phase.
Participants were introduced to gentle yogic practices including Tadasana, Baddha Konasana, Balasana, Setu Bandhasana, Viparita Karani and Shavasana. The programme also included pranayama techniques such as Nadi Shodhana and Bhramari, considered beneficial for nervous system balance and mental relaxation.
Thematic sessions focused on integrating classical yoga practices with Ayurvedic principles, mindfulness techniques and relaxation methods for menopause wellness. Ayurvedic experts also discussed concepts such as Vata imbalance and dhatu kshaya while highlighting supportive dietary and lifestyle practices.
The programme was inaugurated by Rt. Rev. Dr. Malayil Sabu Koshy in the presence of representatives from YWCA of India, CMS College and the Kottayam Municipal administration.
The Ministry of Ayush said the initiative reinforced the role of yoga as a preventive, promotive and therapeutic tool in women’s healthcare, aligning with India’s broader efforts to integrate traditional wellness systems into community health and lifestyle practices ahead of International Day of Yoga 2026.
