Kerala’s Ayurvedic Medical Tourism Generates ₹13,500 Crore in 2024, Eyes 10% National Market Share

Kerala’s Ayurvedic Medical Value Tourism sector recorded a robust revenue of ₹13,500 crore in 2024, marking a 25% year-on-year growth from ₹10,800 crore in 2023. The surge underscores the state’s rising prominence in India’s post-pandemic wellness and medical tourism landscape.
Industry leaders revealed that 60–70% of foreign tourists arriving in Kerala opted for Ayurvedic treatments or wellness programs. The state welcomed 7.4 lakh international visitors in 2024, up from 6.49 lakh the previous year, reflecting growing global interest in integrative healthcare experiences.
The sector’s compound annual growth rate (CAGR) stands at 16%, driven by Kerala’s strategic integration of modern medicine, Ayurveda, and holistic wellness. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Kerala chapter announced its ambition to capture 10% of India’s $8 billion modern medical value tourism market.
The announcement came ahead of two major industry events: the 7th Global Ayurveda Summit & Expo and the 12th Kerala Health Tourism International Conference and Exhibition. These platforms aim to showcase Kerala’s capabilities in medical and wellness tourism to global stakeholders.
Key speakers at the press meet included V. K. C. Razak, Chairman of CII Kerala and MD of VKC Footwear; P. M. Varier, Convenor of the CII Kerala Ayurveda Panel and Chief Physician of Arya Vaidyasala, Kottakkal; Saji Kumar, Past Chairman of CII Kerala and MD of Dhathri Ayurveda; P. V. Louis, Convenor of the CII Kerala Healthcare Panel and MD of Medical Trust Hospital; and Nalanda Jayadev, Co-Convenor of the Healthcare Panel and CEO of Aster Medcity.
Kerala’s positioning as a global wellness destination continues to strengthen, with stakeholders emphasizing quality care, traditional expertise, and international outreach.
