Postpartum depression (PPD) is a complex mix of physical, emotional, and behavioral changes that happen in some women after giving birth, says Webmed.

A recent Facebook post underlines the above statement. The post by Athira Usha Vasudevan a social media influencer throws light on the need of counselling centers in hospitals to lower the postpartum depression severity. It has now become viral.

In this post Athira Usha Vasudevan, urges authorities to set up postpartum depression counselling centers in all hospitals to ensure providing adequate information about this disease to the patients as well as their family members.

The Facebook Post:

It is essential for postpartum depression patients to get counselling sessions in hospitals. The hospitals must arrange counselling session facilities for such patients as well as their relatives.

Unfortunately, many of  the super/multi specialty hospitals are lacking these facilities. People who even getting advice regarding contraceptive methods, are not aware of the methods which help address the problems of postpartum depression.

Last day a friend of mine who was recently discharged from hospital after delivery called up and explained the experience she went  through. This might have led her to depression. However I consoled and cajoled her back to normal.

Most of the women like her are going through such terrible experience after delivery. There are also reports of mothers killing their children without knowing what they are doing. Now it is revealed that such incidents were due to severe postpartum depression. So authorities need to take urgent actions to tackle this problem.

Even Asha workers can be assigned to create awareness among women in order to prevent such incidents from happening.
