SWISS adds extra India flights as Gulf disruptions hit travellers-see routes and schedule

Air travel between India and Europe is witnessing a sudden shift—and airlines are moving fast to respond.

Swiss International Air Lines has announced additional nonstop flights between Zurich and Delhi, stepping in at a time when thousands of passengers are struggling with disrupted connections through Gulf hubs.

The move is not just an expansion—it is a direct response to a growing travel crisis.

Gulf route disruptions push travellers toward direct flights

Airspace complications and operational disruptions across the Gulf region have left many travellers stranded or forced to rethink itineraries at the last minute.

Passengers who once relied on one-stop routes via major hubs are now actively searching for safer, more predictable options.

That shift is already visible in booking data.

SWISS confirmed a sharp rise in demand for direct Europe–India travel, especially on the Zurich–Delhi corridor—prompting the airline to act quickly and add capacity.

New Zurich–Delhi flight schedule from April

The expanded schedule will run from April 1 to May 31, 2026, offering two daily nonstop flights between the two cities.

The additional service includes:

  • Departure from Zurich at 19:35, arriving in Delhi at 07:00 next day
  • Return from Delhi at 08:40, landing in Zurich at 14:00
  • Flight numbers: LX2646 and LX2647

The existing daily service continues:

  • Zurich departure at 12:10, arrival in Delhi at 23:35
  • Delhi departure at 01:05, arrival in Zurich at 06:20
  • Flight numbers: LX146 and LX147

Together, this creates a morning and evening option—giving travellers far more flexibility than before.

Why the Airbus A330 matters for long-haul comfort

The additional flights will be operated using the Airbus A330, a long-haul aircraft known for its reliability and passenger comfort.

For flights lasting eight to nine hours, aircraft choice plays a major role in traveller experience.

The A330 offers:

  • Better cabin space
  • Improved long-distance efficiency
  • Consistent performance on intercontinental routes

This becomes even more important as passengers shift away from multi-stop journeys and prioritise smoother travel.

Temporary move—but demand will decide future

The additional flights are currently limited to a two-month window.

However, the airline has made it clear that future decisions will depend on several factors:

  • Ongoing situation in Middle East airspace
  • Aircraft availability
  • Airport slot constraints
  • Bilateral agreements between India and Switzerland

If demand remains strong, there is potential for further expansion—but no confirmation yet.

What this means for India travellers

For passengers planning travel between India and Europe in the coming weeks, the change brings immediate advantages:

  • More seats available during peak demand
  • Flexible departure timings
  • Reduced dependency on Gulf transit routes
  • Greater reliability with nonstop travel

Business travellers, families, and frequent flyers all stand to benefit—especially those looking to avoid last-minute disruptions.

A timely shift in global travel patterns

The Zurich–Delhi route has long been a key link between India and Europe.

What’s happening now is a reflection of a broader shift in global aviation—where uncertainty in one region quickly reshapes demand worldwide.

By increasing capacity at the right moment, SWISS is not just adding flights—it is adapting to how people want to travel right now: direct, predictable, and stress-free.
