Woman power on track, Mysore – Bengaluru Tippu Express flagged off with 16 women at the helm

There was a glow of confidence in the faces of the all-women staff when the train,  fully controlled by them  slowly moved ahead amidst people on   the platform  gleefully watching and clapping their hands at the Mysore  station at 11.30 am  on Thursday. The 16 women, from loco pilot to the guard, on board the Tippu Express opened a new  page in the history of  Indian Railways.

The women, who took over the complete control of  Tippu Express  that took off from the historic Mysore  railway station, stamped yet another mark of woman power in the country.

The engine bogie cabin in front was controlled by two women, a loco pilot and an assistant loco pilot. The last bogie had a woman guard and there were five woman ticket checking squad, one ticket examiner (TTE), four women from the Railway Protection Force for safety and two station guards. All of them are  well-trained and experienced.

This all-women  piloted train was designed as part of the International Women’s Day celebrations.

It was the loco pilot Bella Shiva Parvathi and assistant loco pilot Rangoli Patel who controlled  the train from the engine cabin. Shiva Parvathi has a total experience of 6 years as loco pilot and 3 years as assistant loco pilot. Rangoli is also an experienced loco pilot.

Before flagging off from Mysore , Divisional Railway Manager Aparna Garg wished  the all -women staff good luck and presented them with bouquets.

The Railways has planned for a 10-day long celebration this time to mark the International Women’s Day.
