Trump Administration withdraws two proposals that seek tightening of H1B rules, increasing salary

The Trump administration  has reportedly withdrawn two H-1B visa draft rules that proposed tightening of H-1B visa process and increasing the wages of highly skilled workers coming in from abroad, including those from India. The Trump administration’s decision has come in the wake of new ruling that blocked the enforcement of a temporary visa ban by the Trump administration on a large number of work permits, including the most sought after H-1B visas.

Increasing the wages of highly skilled workers in the US including H-1B visa workers by the Department of Labor (DOL) and law also proposes strengthening the H-1B non-immigrant visa rules by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

These draft rules primarily addressed the issue of hiring local talent. If implemented, the companies may reduce hiring highly-skilled H-1B workers for the new increased salary. The rules had also proposed tightening of visa processing.
