UK honors Keralite nurse Rija Abraham with Corona worker hero Award

Rija Abraham, an Indian nurse who offered essential care to critical covid patients even after leaving her 1.5 year old daughter at home gets U.K’s Corona worker hero award. The United Kingdom’s Harow town which honored her with the prestigious award after considering her invaluable service to community said in the certificate “A scrub nurse Rija in theater at Princess Alexandra hospital at Harlow, Essex, has now adapted to the role of ITU nurse, providing essential care to very sick covid-19 patients. At home, she leaves a 1.5 year old daughter, she continues to go on and strive to provide the best care possible.”

It is Rija’s husband Prateek who has been taking care of their daughter while Rija was immersed in her work providing care to covid-19 patients. Pateek told the media that It was Rija and her colleague who shouldered the full responsibility of ailing patients as some of the hospital staff entered into voluntary retirement due to the severity of the condition in the hospital.

During those difficult times Rija and her colleagues have devoted all their energy to take care of the patients after being indifferent to her own health and her little girl at home. Rija Abraham’s father Abraham is from Kerala and her father in law Dr D Rajan is the corona nodal officer in Bastar region.

Dr Rajan said that he was very proud of her daughter-in-law who was caring patients in a foreign land even ignoring her personal priorities.
